New Delhi: Hours after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the charge sheet against the four accused in the Hathras case, invoking charges of gangrape and murder, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra slammed the Uttar Pradesh Government alleging that the state left "no stone unturned to deny the victim's dignity".

Hailing the CBI charge sheet, the Congress leader said that the truth has prevailed once again and she is heartened to see that an important step towards providing that justice has been taken.

In a statement released by Congress party, Priyanka Gandhi stated, "This development raises serious questions on the Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, UP police, ADG Law & Order, District Magistrate of Hathras and Senior functionaries of the state administration."

She further alleged, "The state left no stone unturned to deny the victim dignity - in life and death. She was cremated without her family’s consent in the middle of the night. Senior police officers and bureaucrats outrightly denied any rape, intimidated her family and indulged in blatant shaming of the victim."

"Sections of media that dared to report the truth were manhandled. However, the entire might of the Uttar Pradesh government and police could not suppress the truth. I cannot forget the anguish of the 19-year old’s mother, who couldn’t even bid her daughter goodbye. All that her family sought was justice for their child," she added.

The 19-year old girl was brutally gangraped and murdered on September 14. She was cremated in the dead of the night on September 30. Her family alleged that they were not allowed by the local police to even perform her last rites.

"I am heartened to see that an important step towards providing that justice has been taken by the CBI and hope that it will bring the victim’s family some comfort amidst the immense suffering that they have so courageously endured," Priyanka Gandhi said in her statement.

Both Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi went to Hathras to meet the family of the victim. Following the meeting, Priyanka Gandhi even alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government was threatening the family of the victim and asserted that such behaviour is not acceptable to the country.
