Poll strategist Prashant Kishor, on Thursday, resigned from the post of Principal Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, citing 'temporary break from active role in public life' as the reason behind his decision.

New Delhi: In a surprising move, poll strategist Prashant Kishor, on Thursday, resigned from the post of Principal Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, citing "temporary break from active role in public life" as the reason behind his decision. The development assumes significance given the fact that the 2022 Punjab Assembly polls in the state are just a few months away. In his letter to the Punjab CM, he also mentioned that he is yet to decide upon his future course of action.

"As you are aware, in view of my decision to take a temporary break from the active role in public life. I have not been able to take over the responsibilities as your principal advisor," he stated in his letter. Kishor further added, "Since I am yet to decide on my future course of action, I write to request you to kindly relieve me from this responsibility. I take this opportunity to thank you for considering me for this position."

The move comes amid the speculations of Prashant Kishor getting a key role in Congress party. The grand old party is exploring a formal role for the strategist after his meet with the Gandhis' in view of the 2024 General Elections.

It is known that Prashant Kishor was appointed for the post of Principal Advisor to CM in March this year. Captain Amrinder Singh had shared the news by tweeting, "Happy to share that Prashant Kishor has joined me as my principal advisor. Look forward to working together for the betterment of the people of Punjab."

Prashant Kishor had also earlier worked with Captain Amarinder Singh ahead of the 2017 Assembly Elections, and had played a crucial role in the party having won a handsome majority of 77 seats in an Assembly of 117 members.
