Police rescue abducted newborn, take woman into custody

The abduction of a newborn in the Thanjavur Government Hospital has created a flutter. However, the police, who launched a probe into the incident, rescued the baby girl and took the accused woman into custody.

Pattukottai (Tamil Nadu): In a shocking incident, an unidentified woman abducted a five-day-old newborn from the Thanjavur Government Hospital. Rajalakshmi wife of Gunasekaran, who hails from Thanjavur, gave birth to a baby girl at the Thanjavur Government Rajamirasudhar Hospital a few days ago.

According to police, an unknown woman came to help Rajyalakshmi voluntarily at the hospital since there were no relatives and friends to look after her. She had been helping out Rajalakshmi for the past three days. On Saturday morning, she tricked the parents and fled the hospital with the newborn.

The father of the newborn, who came to know about the abduction, immediately went to the police station and lodged a complaint with the police. Based on a complaint, police registered a case and took up investigation. Later, the police watched the CCTV footage and rescued the baby by identifying the accused.
