Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police chief on Sunday said that that the militants who have attacked a Sub Inspector of police in Srinagar have been identified and action against them will be taken soon. Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said that it is tragic that a brave young officer who was still learning nuances of policing has been killed.
Arshid Ahmad Mir, a Sub Inspector of police was killed by an unidentified militant in Khanyar in Srinagar on Sunday afternoon. Singh said that police officers are investigating the case and they have identified the killers.
"The attackers will be taken to task soon. There are militant modules in Kashmir that carry out attacks on security forces and civilians. We have neutralized such modules in the past, this module too will be dealt with," Singh said. DGP Dilbagh Singh and other senior security and civil officers paid tributes to the slain police officer during a wreath-laying ceremony in District Police Lines, Srinagar.
The police released the CCTV footage in which SI Arshid Ahmad (on Probationary Training) was shot at from point-blank range and he succumbed to his injuries. Security forces cordoned off the area to search for the attackers but didn't arrest or detain anyone from the area.
