New Delhi/Ghaziabad: Police have busted an illegal arms factory in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad. This factory was being run in a basement, which could only be reached through a tunnel. The police, after finding out this secret route, arrested five people who were making weapons there and recovered a cache of illegal weapons.

There are some farms near brick kiln number 5 in Muradnagar area. This house was located in these fields. Though police in western Uttar Pradesh have been getting information for a long time about the supply of illegal weapons, they could not find the place where these were being made.

From the outside, the house looked like any other house in the area and when the police went inside, nothing unusual was found initially. However, on a closer look, police found a second door which looked like a window on the wall. On opening the door, they found a path beneath the floor leading to a tunnel. It was through this tunnel that they reached the basement.

Police have detained five people, including three accused who were present there, and a large number of illegal weapons have been recovered from them. According to the police, a woman, who is the wife of one of the accused, is also among those arrested.

The main accused, identified as Zahiruddin, is a resident of Meerut, and is absconding. He reportedly visits the factory occasionally and the police are on his lookout.

It is learnt that whenever there is an increase in demand for weapons by criminals, these are supplied from this factory. Though the police have managed to bust the illegal arms racket, it also shows how the illegal arms business is flourishing ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
