Takarjala (Tripura): Police on Monday arrested three active NLFT ultras from Takarjala area after they had served an extortion notice to an Ashram located at Arjun Thakurpara. All the cadres of the outlawed outfit were produced before the court and sent to police remand of two days. They would be once again produced before the court on February 10, police said.
The accused persons were identified as Rana Kumar Debbarma, Rathindra Debbarma and Prasenjit Debbarma. Speaking on the issue, the public prosecutor to the case said, “a group of NLFT members were disturbing the activities of local Mahaguru Ashram located at Takarjala’s Arjun Thakur Para. They were pressing the priest and the managing committee of the temple to pay them Rs 12 lakh as ransom for the smooth functioning of the ashram”.
“On January 05 last, a group of NLFT men of not less than ten people stormed inside the Ashram and threatened the priest of dire consequences. They had also left a ransom note of Rs 12 lakh. However, everything turned normal later and the management did not pay the money. On Monday, another group went inside the Ashram forcefully and abused the priest and also threatened the general secretary of the managing committee”, the lawyer added.

The general secretary Narayan Rupini lodged an FIR with Takarjala police station after receiving the threat.
Responding promptly to the FIR, police picked up three persons of the group. They were later produced before the court and as per the police’s statement, the Court awarded them police remand for two days. The next hearing of the case had been fixed on February 10, he added.
