Bhopal: Heaping praises on the leadership and the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep S Puri said, "Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) has emerged as one of the largest housing schemes of the world."
The diplomat-turned-politician Puri speaking at the felicitation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) Awards 2021 winners in Rajkot on Wednesday noted that the scheme has already sanctioned 1.23 crore houses, which translates to almost nine times the number that was achieved in the 10 years of the previous regime from 2004-2014. "In all, 64 lakh houses have already been completed and delivered and the balance, too, are at various stages of completion", he further added.
Stating the much-talked PMAY-U scheme as a perfect example of the spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism, the Union Minister in his statement observed that the scheme is a perfect example of the spirit of cooperative and competitive federalism with all the states participating enthusiastically in ensuring its success.
The minister emphasised that the ultimate winner has been the people and that, too, those belong to the vulnerable EWS and LIG sections. It is noteworthy that in order to recognise the outstanding contribution by States, UTs and ULBs, MoHUA has introduced annual awards for excellence in the implementation of PMAY(U).
The winners of the PMAY(U) Awards 2021 have been felicitated by Union Minister Hardeep Puri during the event. Kaushal Kishore, Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs, Urban Development Ministers from States of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Assam and Manoj Joshi, Secretary, MoHUA, were among several other dignitaries, who graced the occasion.
