Davangere (Karnataka): Wearing masks hand-made by a family in Davangere, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took them by surprise by reaching out to them. After receiving the masks from KP Vivekanand, his wife Shanta and daughters, Kavya and Namratha PM Modi send them a reply from the PMO.

As Vivekanand's family simply stayed at home during the COVID-19 lockdown, they started making masks for financially disadvantaged people. The family stitched nearly 8,000 masks during the lockdown which had various colours including the tricolours orange, white and green

Close to 7,000 masks made from cotton fabric were distributed to different people in the city. Due to huge demand, they again stiched 1,000 masks and sold it for a nominal amount. Meanwhile, Vivekananda's daughters Kavya and Namratha sent a pack of 20 orange, 10 white, and 10 green colour masks to PM Modi via speed post.

Kavya sent the parcel to Modi on August 13th and did not receive a reply for three weeks. The family thought the parcel never reached the PM. After a couple of days, Kavitha Devi, a friend of Kavya sent a photo of PM Modi wearing a mask made by them. It made them feel very happy and in two days they received a letter from PMO thanking Kavya and Namratha.

"During the lockdown, we got an idea and decided to make masks. We made 8,000 masks and gave away 7,000 free of cost. We made these masks by using high-quality cotton cloth and canvas and have designed them in such a way that they do not obstruct breathing. These masks are attractive, fetching good response from our friends and relatives," Vivekananda Said

"The parcel reached the PM on August 17, but we did not get any response from the PMO. But later we saw a photo of him wearing a mask, we found that he was using the masks made by us. Our happiness knew no bounds," said Kavya, Vivekanand's daughter.
