Lucknow (UP): Addressing his first virtual rally 'Jan Chaupal' in Uttar Pradesh ahead of Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took a dig at the opposition parties in the state accusing them of being "goons who are desperate to come to power."
Praising Yogi Adityanath led government for improving the law and order situation in the state, PM Modi said that "goons and mafias who consider themselves above the law" have been taught a lesson.
"The BJP Govt in Uttar Pradesh has taught the meaning of the law to the mafias and goons who used to consider themselves above the law. That is why these goons are desperate to come to power anyhow," PM Modi said.
BJP, he said, was working hard to bring about a change in Uttar Pradesh. "On the other hand, they are looking for an opportunity to seek revenge from you (public). Seeking revenge is their ideology," the PM said.
"Five years ago, there was news of the migration of people every other day. Abduction and demand for ransom had ruined the lives of the middle-class and traders. The Yogi Govt has brought the state out of these situations in the last 5 years," he added.
As per an official statement from BJP, the rally was broadcast across 98 mandals in 21 assembly seats in five districts of western Uttar Pradesh going to the polls in the first phase.
State General Secretary Organization Sunil Bansal has inspected the virtual rally studio set up at the state headquarters in Lucknow on Sunday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma also joined the virtual rally from studios in Agra and Lucknow respectively. The virtual rally covered five districts of Uttar Pradesh - Shamli, Muzzafarnagar, Baghpat, Saharanpur and Gautambuddh Nagar (Dadri/Jewar).
