Panipat: The on-going farmers' protest has caused a huge loss to Asia's biggest blanket market here.
According to an estimate, over 450-crore of rupees have been lost due to the blockade till date.
The markets in the town are wearing a deserted look, reminding of the coronavirus-induced lockdown in the last week of March when everything had been closed and people remained indoors for months together.
Suresh Beweja of Panipat district business body told ETV Bharat that sale of Rs 30 crores would be made every day but the closure of routes have disrupted the whole business in the town, known for its cloth trade.
He said if the deadlock is resolved soon it would hit the businessmen very hard and the government would also end up losing lots of revenue.
Meanwhile, the central government is in talks with the protesting farmers to resolve the problem.
