New Delhi: Jet Airways employees have opposed the ''paltry amount'' offered by the new owners of the airline- Murari Lal Jalan and Kalrock Capital consortium and requested the Minister of Labour to call for a joint meeting with the former chairman of Jet Airways, resolution professional and consortium.

This comes after the Murari Lal Jalan and Kalrock Capital consortium announced that at least 95 per cent of Jet Airways employees will have to give their consent to the consortium's proposal or lose benefits offered to them under the revival plan. In a letter to the Civil Aviation Minister, Labour Minister, All India Jet Airways Officer and Staff Association stated, "on a preliminary pursual of the Resolution Plan, we find that there is no reference to the claims of the employees and a very partly amount has been proposed as a resolution in the Insolvency and Bankruptcy (IBC) process."

"The settlement proposal given under the IBC is a complete mockery of the process and has neglected the rights of the workers, staff and officers completely to the extent that we have been brought to complete penury. Certainly, the law on IBC was essential from a possibility of reviving the company but as seen the outcome has been extremely shocking and hurting to our members," Kiran Pawaskar, president of the association said in the letter.

As per the Kalrock-Jalan proposed plan, employees and workers would be paid Rs 11,000 and Rs 22,800 respectively and each worker would be given a phone, laptop or iPad on a lottery basis and ticket vouchers worth Rs 10,000. The association letter further alleged that the company is being revived by a complete set of outsiders without any knowledge of the aviation business who have failed to assuage the sentiments of the workforce. Jet Airways had around 22,000 employees on its rolls while 6,000 worked on a contract basis.

The airline fell into bankruptcy in 2019 after failing to repay debts. In October 2020, the Committee of Creditors (CoC) of the grounded airline had approved the resolution plan submitted by a consortium of UK's Kalrock Capital and UAE-based entrepreneur Murari Lal Jalan.
