North India's first palm garden in Haldwani protects 100 species

Uttarakhand Research Center has achieved another major achievement in the field of biodiversity. The research centre has established Palm Garden on 4 acres in the FTI (Forest Training Institute) campus in Haldwani, in which palm species of many states including Uttarakhand have been planted. It is being told that this is not only Uttarakhand's first but also the only palm garden in North India.

Haldwani: Uttarakhand Research Center has achieved another major achievement in the field of biodiversity. The research centre has established Palm Garden on 4 acres in the FTI (Forest Training Institute) campus in Haldwani, in which palm species of many states including Uttarakhand have been planted. It is being told that this is not only Uttarakhand's first but also the only palm garden in North India.

Sanjeev Chaturvedi, Conservator of Forests, Uttarakhand Forest Research Center said that the main objective of establishing Palm Garden is to make people aware by conserving plant species. He told that this park has been prepared in a period of 3 years with a budget of 16 lakhs. He informed that about 20 species of palm have been planted in the park, which are endangered. He added that work has been done to preserve about 50 palm species of Uttarakhand by bringing them from different places inside the garden. Apart from this, 50 species of other states have also been established here.
