Tarn Taran: The Punjab Tarn Taran district court on Wednesday issued non-bailable warrants against nine people including Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwa and Deputy Speaker Jaikishan Rodi, Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and Meet Heyer in a case pertaining to blocking of National Highway. According to the information received by the Tarn Taran District Court, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Dalbir Singh Tong, MLA Manjit Singh Bilaspur, MLA Kulwant Singh Pandori and a party worker have also been issued non-bailable warrants.
According to the sources, preparations have begun to approach the High Court to obtain further bail. In this regard, when Aam Aadmi Party's lawyer Buta Singh appeared in the court, he said that on August 26, the honourable court had ordered not to approve the applications given by the ministers and others who were absent. On August 20, 2020, around 100 deaths were caused due to adulterine liquor, following which AAP had staged a dharna in front of the local district administration complex against the then Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
During the protests, the Speaker and many other leaders were booked by the Sadar Police under Section 188, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Disaster Management Act. These leaders were summoned to court several times in the last two years but they did not appear in court. It is in connection with this that the court took notice of their absence and issued a non-bailable warrant against the said on Tuesday.
