Bhatkal (Uttara Kannada): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids in two houses in Bhatkal taluk of Uttara Kannada on Friday.
The NIA raided on two houses on Sagara Road and Umar Street and it was learned that a relative of a terror accused was detained after the raids. The NIA team was accompanied by top police officials in the district.
In October last year, the Union Home Ministry designated 18 persons including two brothers from Bhatkal as terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
A team of the Pune Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) visited had Bhatkal last month to investigate the German Bakery blast case. Two of the main accused in the blast, Riyaz Bhatkal and Iqbal are natives of Bhatkal. According to the officials, relatives of Riyaz and Iqbal, who run a bakery in Bhatkal were questioned in connection with the case.
