NIA arrests ISIS operative in Islamic State conspiracy case

NIA on Sunday said Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood (33), a resident of Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly raising funds, radicalising and recruiting gullible Muslim youth and sending them to Syria to join ISIS. Further investigation in the case continues, officials said.

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested an alleged Islamic State terrorist for allegedly raising funds, radicalising and recruiting gullible Muslim youth and sending them to Syria to join ISIS.

Muhammad Tauqir Mahmood (33), a resident of Bengaluru was arrested on Saturday, NIA said in a statement.

The investigation agency had earlier arrested two accused, Ahamed Abdul Cader and Irfan Nasir, in connection with the case.

The accused have been charged under Sections of the IPC and the UA(P) Act for having affiliation with the banned terrorist organisations ISIS/ISIL/Daesh.

Investigations had revealed that Mahmood along with his associate had visited Syria in 2013 illegally to liaise with Daesh leadership and offered support from Indian Muslims, NIA said.

Further investigation in the case continues, officials said.
