NHRC seeks report from Union Home Secy, CS of Assam & Mizoram

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought reports from the Union Home Secretary, and Chief Secretaries of Assam and Mizoram government regarding the violence at Lailapur along Assam Mizoram border that left six Assam police personnel and a civilian dead.

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought reports from the Union Home Secretary, and Chief Secretaries of Assam and Mizoram government regarding the violence at Lailapur along Assam Mizoram border that left six Assam police personnel and a civilian dead.

The development comes after one Md. Injamul Haque, a resident of Kamrup District of Assam had filed a complaint before the NHRC alleging attack on senior police officers, officers of district administration and others by a mob and Mizoram police. The petitioner had also provided details regarding the violent clashes that occurred on July 26 at the Assam Mizoram border. The NHRC having gone through issue observed the allegations made by Haque to be disturbing.

The Commission said, "The allegations made in the complaint are serious in nature involving deaths and injuries to the public servants. The case therefore involves grave violation of Human Rights of the deceased and injured. Such types of cases are viewed very seriously by the Commission. In these circumstances, let a Notice be sent to the Home Secretary, Government of India and Chief Secretaries of Govt. of Assam and Mizoram calling for a report within a period of four weeks which will be put up thereafter before the Full Commission."
