New Delhi: Nagaland is all set to have an-all party government after the only opposition party in the hill state with elected members--Naga Peoples' Front (NPF) has decided to join the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) led Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA) government in the wake of the Naga political issue. According to an official statement, the 25 elected members of the opposition NPF will join the government soon for the sake of the Naga political issue.
"The stand of the NPF has been very consistent on the matter of the Naga political issue. We are with the government now over the issue of Naga political resolution. Now towards that endeavour, an idea is being mooted out to have an opposition less government so that we can push the issue of resolution to the Naga political issue further," said Secretary-General of the NPF and party spokesperson A Kikon.

Kikon informed that an NPF legislature party meeting was held recently where all the members have supported the move to have an opposition less government and join the NDPP led government without any pre-condition. "We are going steady on the issue," said Kikon adding that the idea is likely to get the final shape within a week. Notably, the ruling NDPP-led government in Nagaland has 20 members in the 60-member House. The BJP which has 12 members is a partner of the government. The BJP, however, is yet to make its stand clear over the issue.

Even if the saffron party withdraws its support, there is no threat to the government as the NPF is all set to join the government with 25 members in the House. The current strength of the 60-member House is 59 as one of the seats is vacant. The Congress has, however, slammed the development and said that the move is not going to help the Naga political issue as the legislators have no direct role in the peace process and that the Centre's interlocutor for the Naga peace talks have already said that all the negotiations have ended on October 31, 2019.
