Bengaluru: The use of satellite phones is prohibited in the country for the sake of national security. However, the Karnataka government has noticed that more than 220 satellite phones are being used in the state, especially in the coastal region. Congress MLA UT Khader raised a question regarding the alleged use of satellite phones in the state and urged the govt to give a clear picture on the matter by conducting a proper investigation.

Responding to the question posed by UT Khader, Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra replied that, "The use of satellite phones in the state has been increasing rapidly. I have noticed media reports on the use of satellite phones in the coastal area. We found that more than 220 satellite phones are being used in the state. International calls have been made through these phones".

Araga Jnanendra said, "Police are on high alert and they are in touch with The Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and The Intelligence Bureau (IB). They are no problem right now. We are tracking the origin of these phones."
