New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Assam and Manipur from December 26 to 27. During his visit, many opposition party leaders including Congress are also likely to join BJP before the 2021 assembly elections in Assam.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP's Assam in-charge Baijayant Panda said that many Congress leaders are in touch with the Bharatiya Janata Party and they are likely to join the saffron party soon.

After Panda's statement came out, the Congress also called a meeting in Guwahati and warned party members of imposing the anti-defection law against them.

Meanwhile, these prospects have increased further after 6 JDU leaders joined the BJP in Arunachal on Friday.

Speaking in this regard, the national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nupur Sharma, said that the Congress leaders are dissatisfied with the post of president in the Congress party and that's why they are much eager to join BJP.

"Even senior leaders of Congress write letters, they are not getting any feedback from the party, then obviously the leaders will think of changing the party," she said.

"Such an atmosphere has been created in Congress that only keep enjoying power and selling the name of a family. Congress has spread dynasticism and they want to enjoy the power. But today people are aware of everything," she added.

Notably, Shah's programmes in Guwahati on December 26 includes distribution of financial grants to 8,000 Namghars (traditional Vaisnavite monasteries of Assam) under the Assam Darshan programme.

Shah will also lay the foundation stone of a new medical college in Guwahati, the second medical college in the city, and nine law colleges to be set up across Assam.

Reportedly, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the programmes in Guwahati while his Manipuri counterpart N Biren Singh will be present in the events in Imphal.
