Modi urges cadres to do proactive work ahead of assembly elections

The meeting of newly inducted BJP office-bearers comes at a time when the party is gearing up for the Assembly polls in five states, including the high-profile West Bengal election, where it is in a direct contest with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed the BJP's new set of national office-bearers at a meeting chaired by party chief J P Nadda. The meeting comes at a time when the party gears up for the Assembly polls in five states, including the high-profile West Bengal election, where it is in a direct contest with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Speaking to ETV Bharat, BJP leader Anupam Hazra said that West Bengal is reeling under corruption and needs to be freed from Trinamool Congress.

"TMC is a corrupted party and the CBI team raided the Kolkata residence of Abhishek Banerjee, who is also a part of this corrupted Banerjee family. This family is totally responsible for West Bengal's economical condition. Now CBI will investigate the case and corrupted people will be arrested. This is not the first time that TMC leaders got embroiled in controversy. There were several cases where TMC leaders found guilty," Hazara said.

Speaking about the Bengal election this year, he said: "Didi has become frazzled after seeing BJP's demand in West Bengal and that's why she is saying that no outsider will form their government here. First of all, we all are Indians and every Indian has equal rights in West Bengal. She is not even obeying our constitution and has made her own constitution by saying outsiders are not allowed in West Bengal."

The meeting was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi and started by paying tributes to those who lost their lives due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prime minister discussed key points in his speech and asked all supporters and leaders to do proactive work on the ground rather than sitting in the office.

Addressing a media briefing on the meeting, BJP general secretary Arun Singh said that during the course of the meet, discussions will be held on farm laws, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and upcoming state polls.

The meeting, which is also being attended by BJP state unit presidents, assumes significance as it comes amid fierce protests by a section of farmers in Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh against the three new farm laws.

Reportedly, this is the first such physical get-together of all BJP leaders since the COVID-19 outbreak. BJP president J P Nadda, other office-bearers of the party at the national level and state unit chiefs attended the meeting.
