New Delhi: Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury addressing a presser in New Delhi on the occasion of 79th anniversary of the Quit India Movement, sloganeered 'Modi Sarkar Hatao, Desh Bachao' (Quit Modi, Save the country). The CPI(M) leader made the remarks while speaking to the media after the party's two-day central committee meeting, adding that right from farmers to workers, all are troubled with this government. "In the country today, farmers are agitating with the demand to repeal three agricultural laws, while on the other hand, workers are demanding repeal of the new labour laws. The CPM has demanded the government to immediately repeal three agricultural laws and enact a law guaranteeing farmers to purchase crops at MSP. There should also be a provision in the law made to fix minimum support prices (MSPs) for farm produce, based on the formula C2+50%, wherein 'C2' stands for imputed cost of capital and the rent on the land that enable farmers 50% returns.
"Working people, agri workers, women, students & youth join in lakhs the struggling kisans across the country in 25 states under the slogan 'Modi Sarkar Hatao, Desh Bachao'. Modi govt must repeal the agri laws, enact a legal MSP, stop privatisation & loot of national assets," the CPI (M) leader tweeted.

Yechury further said that the Central Committee of the CPI(M) also discussed the recent assembly elections in which the BJP suffered heavy losses, adding that apart from Assam, the BJP's performance in Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala remained poor, despite all the gimmicks. On the other hand, the CPI(M) General Secretary also expressed disappointment over the performance of the Left parties in the West Bengal elections, saying that people saw the potential of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to defeat the BJP and hence chose Trinamool, but this election was disappointing for the Left alliance as it happened for the first time, as they could not win even a single seat in Bengal.
The CPI(M) leader also called upon all the secular opposition parties to unite and protest against this government with full force. Speaking on the Pegasus row, Yechury said that the government does not want to discuss it even though France, Mexico and Israel itself have set up investigations into the matter. "Our direct question is whether the Government of India or any of its agencies has entered into an agreement with the Israeli company NSO? Not responding to this means that the government has done so," Yechury had told media.
