New Delhi: Independent MLA from Gujarat Jignesh Mevani joined hands with Congress on Tuesday, just ahead of the 2022 Assembly polls in the state.
While speaking to ETV Bharat, Mevani said, "It is a party which believes in the Indian Constitution, which cherishes the idea of India, and its legacy of Indian freedom movement. And I endure my faith in the leadership and particularly in Rahul Gandhi ji. This man is absolutely genuine. As Kanhaiya and Hardik have joined, We will be able to put up a great fight in Gujarat and across the country."
When asked if Congress needs young blood and enthusiasm in the present situation, he replied, "All the political parties need that, so is the case with INC as well."
Mevani showed full confidence that after his induction, Congress will fill the gap due to which it got defeated by BJP in 2017 Assembly polls, saying, "Last time it was a close fight. But this time we will wipe out BJP."

Jignesh Mevani, however, didn't join the Congress party officially as he is an independent MLA. Though, he has announced his support to the party saying that he will contest the 2022 Assembly Election from his constituency under Congress leadership.
