New Delhi: As the ruckus in the Rajya Sabha touches a raw political nerve between the government and the opposition, more details emerge from the letter written by the marshals to The Director (Security), Parliament Security Service, Rajya Sabha Secretariat.

One of the male marshals Rakesh Negi, who was called in to the house, when the opposition members were in the well of the house wrote that MPs Elamaran Kareem and Anil Desai tried to break the security cordon formed by the Marshals around the Rajya Sabha Chair.

“During this, Elamaran Kareem caught hold of my neck in order to drag me out of the security cordon chain, which led to momentarily choking and suffocation,” wrote Rakesh Negi in his letter to the Director (Security), Parliament Security Service.

Another female Marshal Akshita Bhat also wrote in her letter detailing what she had to face during the ruckus. ”Some male MPs, engaged in protests, rushed towards me and tried to breach the security cordon. When I resisted, MPs Chhaya Verma and Phulo Devi Netam stepped aside and made way for the male MPs to aggressively breach the security cordon and reach the Table,” wrote Akshita Bhat in her letter to The Director (Security), Parliament Security Service.

Earlier in the day, Opposition members in Rajya Sabha lambasted the government over the incidents in the House when a bill related to General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021 was taken up. NCP leader Sharad Pawar alleged that 'women MPs were attacked' and 'more than 40 men and women were brought into the House from outside to control the MPs. "In my 55 years of parliamentary career, I never saw the way the women MPs were attacked in the Rajya Sabha. More than 40 men and women were brought into the House from outside. It is painful. It is an attack on democracy," NCP chief Sharad Pawar said.

The government, meanwhile, released a CCTV footage that shows that the marshals had surrounded the well of the house and prevented the opposition MPs from moving towards the Rajya Sabha Chair. The MPs were seen jostling with the Marshals and two women MPs were seen pulling a woman marshal away from the human wall created by the marshals in the Rajya Sabha. The govt released the video to counter the argument of the opposition that women MPs were forcibly removed and assaulted.
