Jamshedpur (Jharkhand): Three workers of the Tata Steel Coke Plant in Jamshedpur have been injured in an explosion followed by fire in the plant on Saturday. The blast triggered a major blaze in the factory. The incident, according to initial inputs, took place due to a gas leak.
According to officials in battery number six and seven of the plant gas cutting and welding was being done when a gas leak resulted in the explosion and subsequent blaze. Locals said that the explosion was heard from far away from the factory.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren tweeted that Jamshedpur district administration was working in coordination with Tata Steel management for the immediate medical treatment of the injured.
Tata Steel said in a statement that an explosion took place in the gas line of battery number 6 of the coke plant at around 10.20 am on Saturday. "Right now battery number 6 has been switched off.
