Srinagar: People's Democratic Party leader Mehbooba Mufti claimed that she was detained again in her house. "I have been illegally detained yet again. Since two days, J&K admin has refused to allow me to visit @parawahid ’s family in Pulwama. BJP Ministers & their puppets are allowed to move around in every corner of Kashmir but security is a problem only in my case," she tweeted.

However, the Jammu and Kashmir police have refuted the claims made by Mufti saying that they had requested her to postpone the press conference for security reasons.

The Lieutenant Governor administration in Jammu and Kashmir Friday barred the former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti from addressing press conference scheduled at her Gupkar residence, even as she was detained today morning to thwart her visit to South Kashmir's Pulwama.

Heavy deployment of policemen was made outside Mufti's 'Fairview' residence at the highly secured Gupkar in Srinagar. The police did not allow the journalists to move towards Mufti's residence, as they were invited by Mehbooba for the press conference. Police or civil officials did not explain why the PDP president was barred from addressing the press conference.

Mehbooba had tweeted in the morning that she was detained by the authorities who did not allowed to visit the family of PDP youth leader Waheed Parra in Pulwama, arrested by the NIA and was today remanded in 15 day NIA custody. Mehbooba said Parra was arrested on “baseless charges”.

“Their cruelty knows no bounds. Waheed was arrested on baseless charges and I am not allowed to even console his family. Even my daughter Iltija has been placed under house arrest because she also wanted to visit Waheed’s family,” she said.

PDP leader Waheed Parra was remanded to 15 days of National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody on Friday following his arrest earlier this week for allegedly conspiring with Hizbul Mujahideen militants to get their support during the 2019 parliamentary elections.

Parra was taken to Jammu and produced before a designated NIA court in a case related to his alleged "close links" with Irfan Shafi Mir, who was arrested along with Hizbul Mujahideen militant Naveed Babu and suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police Davinder Singh earlier this year, officials said.

After his arrest on Wednesday, the NIA produced Parra in a Delhi court on Thursday and sought a transit remand for his production before a designated court in Jammu, the officials said.
