Thane: A 35-year-old man was arrested on Sunday on charges of raping a teenage girl in Thane district of Maharashtra.
The incident came to light when the girl's family members lodged a complaint at the Kalyan railway police station. According to police, the 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the man at the Ulhasnagar railway station on Friday night. The girl was on a skywalk at the railway station along with her friends when the accused took her to an isolated building near the railway premises and allegedly raped her. The girl's friends reportedly fled the scene after the accused threatened to attack them with a hammer.

The accused identified as Shrikant Gaikwad has been charged under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was traced with the help of CCTV footage, police said.
The victim who suffered head injuries during the assault is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ulhasnagar.
The incident comes close on the heels of the brutal rape and murder of a 34-year-old woman in Sakinaka area of Mumbai on Friday. The suspect was arrested within a few hours of the incident.
