New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Utpal Kumar Singh, who recently took charge as the Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, called on Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu at Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas on Saturday.
This was Singh's first one-on-one meeting with the Vice President after taking the charge on December 1.
Singh, a 1986 batch IAS officer from Uttarakhand cadre, has dedicated 34 years of his life as a public servant.
He had served as the chief secretary of Uttarakhand before retiring on July 31 this year.
In 1986, Singh was posted as Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) in Uttar Pradesh's Itawa district.
Later on, he was also appointed as Joint Secretary in the Finance and Sports department in Lucknow.
During his tenure as Joint Secretary, he worked on several government schemes on the grassroots level and ensured the all-around development of the people.
Utpal Kumar Singh was sent to the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's cabinet in the year 2012, in view of his skilful performance and his excellent working style, where he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture.
After his promotion here, he was made an Additional Secretary. However, Uttarakhand Government called him back and made him Uttarakhand Chief Secretary.
After this, he also held various positions in the state cabinet.
