Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre has said that the hospital's oxygen supplies would dry up if it has not been supplied immediately.

"Inox has refused to give LMO supply beyond 1.7 tons they supplied at 2 pm. We may run out of oxygen by 8-8:30 pm for 275 COVID19 patients. Need at least 6 tons till we get supply tomorrow at noon", said Dr Bankata, Executive Director at Batra Hospital.

Though the centre has ramped up the supply of Remdesivir injection from 38 lakh vials per month to 74 lakh vials per month, the relatives of the coronavirus infected patients have been facing an ample number of problems in getting the medicine.

To review the ongoing situation, ETV Bharat inspected several medical stores to assess the ongoing situation. While reaching, we have witnessed the patients were reaching the address of the medical stores which are roaming on several social media platforms.

"My brother is infected with the virus. The doctor prescribed him a shot of Remdesivir injection and oxygen. I have been roaming from one corner to another in search of medicine. Today, I got a message on Whatsapp that there is a medical store in North Delhi that has a stock of the medicine. When I reached the location, I couldn't find any stores", said Rohit Jain, a relative of a covid patient.

Union Health Minister assures all possible help to Delhi in tackling crisis

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday assured all the possible help to Delhi in dealing with the ongoing pandemic. He said that the centre has issued several guidelines to the health secretaries to ramp up the facilities as soon as possible. 

In another meeting, the Chairman of the Railway Board, Suneet Sharma said that the states like Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Delhi have requested the ministry for the movement of liquid oxygen by rail wagons. He said that the ministry has assured all possible help to them.

"We are coordinating with the Delhi govt very closely. We have asked them to keep their tankers ready. Delhi has asked us for 50 coaches (800 beds) which have been placed at Shakur Basti. 25 coaches (400 beds) have been placed at Anand Vihar. However, so far, patients have not yet come", added Sharma.

Amid a steep rise in coronavirus cases in the national capital leading to an acute shortage of oxygen supply in the hospitals dealing with the deadly virus, Bram Health-care Private Limited and Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre moved to Delhi High Court seeking a smooth supply of oxygen. Bram health care has urged the Court to issue direction to supply 125-150 oxygen cylinder on a daily basis.

While hearing the plea, the High Court has noted that "there is an improvement in the supply of oxygen but there is some shortage of 100 MT per day in the national capital."

It directed the Nodal officer of Delhi to issue necessary instructions for these two hospitals who have knocked on the doors of the court for an urgent need of oxygen.

The Court has noted that oxygen allocation is done by the Centre. It said that it has put it before the Solicitor General that the empowered group could look at the possibility of making reallocation to reduce the distance and the same would make the process of transportation to and from more efficient.

A COVID care centre equipped with 500 oxygen beds will be restarted in Delhi amid a surge in coronavirus cases, and border guarding force ITBP has been again entrusted to run it from April 25.

An order issued by the Union Home Ministry said the Delhi government has "sought assistance to re-operationalise" the Sardar Patel COVID care centre (SPCCC) with 500 oxygen beds, which was first created last year at the Radha Soami Beas campus located in south Delhi's Chhattarpur area.

Delhi registered 26,169 new COVID-19 cases and 306 related deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the health bulletin update on Thursday evening. This was the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities the national capital has registered in Delhi in a single day.

As hospitals across the national capital continue to face a shortage of oxygen amid the raging second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Delhi Police are extending a helping hand to the healthcare facilities in arranging the life-saving gas.

Acting on reports of shortage of oxygen at the Max Hospital in Saket, the Delhi Police formed a green corridor from the Apsara Border to Saket to facilitate the transportation of oxygen.

Delhi Police Commissioner SN Srivastava has also directed all the police stations to tackle the ongoing situation with patience and suggested helping the citizens in getting oxygen supplies.

New Delhi: After Sir Ganga Ram hospital raised an alarm for oxygen shortage, a fresh consignment arrived at the hospital on Friday morning. A truck loaded with oxygen by INOX reached at around 9.30 a.m. on Friday morning, the hospital said.

The hospital had received an oxygen supply between 12.30 p.m. and 1 a.m. last night.

According to an official statement from the hospitals, around 25 Covid-19 patients have died in the last 24 hours. Around 500 Covid patients are admitted to the hospital, and out of them 140 are on oxygen support.

"Ventilators and Bipap are not working effectively. Resorting to manual ventilation in ICUs and ED. Major crisis likely. life of another 60 sickest patients at risk. Need urgent intervention," Sir Ganga Ram Hospital had said in a statement early morning on Friday.
