Hathras (Uttar Pradesh): Seema Kushwaha, the lawyer representing relatives of Hathras rape-murder case victim, has claimed a threat to her life. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Kushwaha said that no security was provided to her in spite of repeated requests. In a direct attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, she asked whether they are waiting for her to be dead to carry out the investigation. She also alleged that she was only given security from Hathras court.
Earlier also, Kushwaha had alleged some lawyers of stalking her and also said that she was not allowed to properly submit the papers when she had visited the Hathras court on March 5, 2021. After the incident, Kushwaha had appealed to the High Court to transfer the case from Hathras, but the court declined.
The case was heard in the court on Thursday where the victim's brother was cross-examined. The case has been adjourned for the next hearing on September 23.
The 19-year-old Dalit girl had succumbed to her injuries at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital on September 29, 2020, after being assaulted and allegedly gang-raped in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras on September 14, 2020.
The four accused arrested in this case, Sandeep, Ravi, Ramu and Luv Kush, are lodged in Aligarh jail.
