Kollam Collector dons father's role for orphaned girl

Kollam district collector B Abdul Nasar is winning many hearts after he paid a visit to see the girl who got married in the role of father. His gesture is likened to girl's parents visiting the newly-wed 'daughter' in her in-law's house.

Kollam (Kerala): Kollam district collector B Abdul Nasar is winning many hearts after he paid a visit to see the girl who he got married in the role of father. His gesture is likened to girl's parents visiting the newly-wed 'daughter' in her in-law's house.

The girl, Shakeela was raised in an orphanage and she got married to Vidhuraj from Inchavila on the last week of August. District Collector Abdul Nasar took the role of her 'father', offering the girl's hand in marriage to the bridegroom in the traditional marriage ritual.

A week later, Nasar along with his wife M K Ruksana visited their 'daughter' at her in-law's house in Inchavila. They spent some time with the family and interacted with Shakeela and her in-laws. While departing, he gave her blessings for a bright future. Women and Child Development Officer Geetha Kumari also accompanied the Collector and wife during the visit.

Shakeela and Vidhuraj got married on 30th August at Panamoodu Devi Temple. The girl was taken care of by the Department of Women and Child Development when she lost her parents at a young age. Once she turned 18, she was moved to a Government Shelter home at Inchavila.
