Muzaffarnagar: A mega Kisan Maha panchayats organised by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha is being held in Uttar Pradesh's Muzzafnagar amid tight security arrangements on Sunday against the three central farm laws.

Uttar Pradesh Police has beefed up security in Muzaffarnagar to ensure law and order during Kisan Mahapanchayat which is termed as the 'biggest ever congregation of farmers' in the last nine months as the SKM stated.

"Appropriate arrangements have been made in view of the Kisan Mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar on Sunday to ensure that no law and order problem arises. There is a possibility of farmers from neighbouring states Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand also attending the gathering," Director General of Police Mukul Goel told reporters.

At the same time, ADG Meerut Zone Rajiv Sabharwal said that surveillance will also be done through drone cameras. He also said that necessary directions have been given to all the officials. Also, additional gates have also been made at the ground where the Mahapanchayat is to be held so that there is no hindrance in the movement of the farmers coming there.

Meanwhile, Bhartiya Kisan Union president Rakesh Tikait stated that government should find a way out to solve the long-standing issue of the three farm laws. He also said that more and more such kinds of maha panchayat will be held across the country.

Earlier, Tikait had tweeted that it will be one of the biggest maha panchayats to be held."The Kisan Mahapanchayat of September 5 in Muzaffarnagar will be historic. Let us go to Muzaffarnagar on September 5. All of you are invited to the Kisan Mahapanchayat," tweeted Rakesh Tikait.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi extended her support to the farmers. Taking to Twitter, Gandhi wrote, "The whole country is with the farmers in their fight to save agriculture and demand the right to their hard work."

Speaking to ETV Bharat, a senior RLD leader said that farmers' organizations constantly warned the government, but the government did not budge. He also said that this Mahapanchayat will not only be historic but will also showcase farmers unity.

Samajwadi Party District President Rajpal Singh said that after this Mahapanchayat, the government will realize the power of farmers. He said that even if we do not go to the farmers' platform, but the farmers associated with SP are joining it.

Congress District President Avnish Kajla said that Congress is with the farmers of western UP and the party workers will also take part in Mahapanchayat.

The farmers have been demanding the repeal of the laws which they are afraid will do away with the MSP system, leaving them at the mercy of big corporations.

Farmers have been protesting on the different borders of the national capital since November 26 last year against the three newly enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

Farmer leaders and the Centre have held several rounds of talks but the impasse remains.
