Karnataka imposes weekend curfew in border districts

Weekend curfew will be imposed across Karnataka's border districts to curb Covid-19 cases. Existing night curfew in Maharashtra, Kerala border districts will also be in place. Night curfew across the state has been implemented from 9 pm.

Bengaluru: In the wake of the surge in Covid cases in Karnataka, the Basavaraja Bommai government has decided to impose weekend curfew in the border districts of the state from tomorrow (August 7). Existing night curfew in Maharashtra, Kerala border districts will also be in place. Night curfew across the state has been implemented from 9 pm.

The decision was made after Bommai's meeting with ministers, Covid task force, senior officials of various departments.

As for the schools, regular classes can be resumed on a batch-wise basis from August 23 for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th standard students. Bommai also said the decision on the resumption of regular classes will be taken later after reviewing Covid situation.

Regarding Cabinet portfolio allotment, Bommai said it will be done today along with the formation of a new Covid task force. Ministers Dr CN Ashwath Narayana, Dr K Sudhakar, chief secretary Ravikumar, medical experts Dr CN Manjunath, Dr Sudarshan, Dr Deviprasad Shetty were present in the meeting.
