Mangaluru: Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes has been hospitalised under serious condition after he suffered a fall while practising yoga. Sources said he has been admitted to ICU at Yenepoya hospital in an unconscious state.
Upon receiving information, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi spoke to Fernandes's family members over the phone.
Sources said Fernandes did not take cognizance of the trouble when he fell on Sunday morning as there was no injury. Doctors at Yenepoya hospital during examination found out that there was a blood clot in his brain. He had reached the hospital for dialysis.

Fernandes is a Parliamentarian representing Karnataka. He had served as the Union Minister for Transport, Road and Highways in the Congress government. He was also given the charge of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Hailing from Udupi, Fernandes was the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee during the 1980s. Later, he was appointed as the joint secretary of the All India Congress Committee in 1983. Elected five times as parliamentarian between 1983 and 1997, he was elevated from Lok Sabha MP post to Rajya Sabha MP in April 1998.
