New Delhi: Anticipating tension at the farmers' proposed gherao of the mini-secretariat in Haryana's Karnal, the district administration has banned large crowds for two days, starting today.

District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav issued CrPC Section 144 ahead of the Karnal mega protest to avoid untoward incidents like the August 28 violence, which gained national importance.

“The Superintendent of Police, SDMs of Karnal, Indri, Gharaunda and Assandh, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, BDPOs and Duty Magistrates will ensure compliance of Section 144. Action under Section 188 of the IPC will be taken against violators,” read the DM’s order.

The farmers' union had demanded the dismissal of young IAS officer Ayush Sinha who issued an order to "crack heads" of the protesters if they breached the security during their August 28 march. A video of him issuing the direction to the police was widely circulated on social media and had evoked massive outrage.

Two days after the violence-hit rally, the farmers led by Bhartiya Kisan Union president Gurnam Singh Charuni gave a deadline of September 6 to dismiss Sinha from service and take stringent action against him, including, filing a murder charge.

The farmers had also issued an ultimatum threatening a mini-secretariat gherao on September 7 if their demands were not met by September 6. They also demanded a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the next of the kin of Sushil Kajal, a farmer, who died in the August 28 violence.
