New Delhi: Japan on Friday decided to extend an emergency aid of nearly USD 14.8 million to India owing to a rapid surge in the Covid-19 cases, the diplomatic mission of Japan in Delhi said on Friday.
On April 30, Japan announced 300 oxygen concentrators and 300 ventilators for India.

On May 5, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi informed External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar that Japan was ready to provide an additional grant of up to USD 50 million to India.
On May 14, Japan said that it will transport the 300 ventilators through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) along with additional 500 ventilators and 500 oxygen concentrators.
The additional aid of 1,000 ventilators and 2,000 oxygen concentrators, which was announced on Friday, will be provided to India through UNOPS as a part of the assistance of up to 50 million dollars announced by Japan on May 5.

As a result, around 1,800 ventilators and 2,800 oxygen concentrators in total will be provided to India through a series of recent Japanese assistance, the Embassy of Japan in India said.
Japan stands with India, our friend and partner, in its efforts to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic through this additional emergency assistance, and hopes that Japan’s assistance will contribute to alleviating and containing the COVID-19 situation in India, it added.
