Bandipora (Jammu and Kashmir): Two unidentified militants were killed and a soldier was injured in an encounter that broke out between militants and security forces in Shokbaba forest in the Sumblar area of Bandipora on Saturday. With this, a total of 100 militants have been killed this year in Jammu & Kashmir, according to the police.
"02 unidentified #terrorists killed. #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow," J&K police tweeted.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Shokbaba forest in the Sumblar area of Bandipora in north Kashmir following inputs about the presence of militants there, they said.
The officials said as the forces were conducting searches in the area, the militants fired upon them. The forces retaliated, ensuing an encounter in which two militants were killed, they added.
"Encounter has started at Shokbaba forest, Sumblar area of Bandipora. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," J&K police tweeted.
The encounter had begun after the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the terrorists were hiding and the latter opened fire on the forces.
