Leopard mauls 10-yr-old boy to death in Jammu Kashmir

The boy has been identified as Ahran Showkat Mir, and he was declared brought dead to the hospital. Several instances of leopard sightings have been reported in Budgam since February this year

Budgam (Jammu & Kashmir): A 10-year-old boy was mauled to death by a leopard in Harran area of Soibugh, Budgam, on Friday. As soon as the news broke in the area, the locals started a frantic search for the boy only to find his body in a pool of blood at an orchard, some half a kilometre away from his house.

The boy has been identified as Ahran Showkat Mir. He was declared brought dead to hospital.

Locals told ETV Bharat correspondent Aabid Hussain, who visited the area, that they had being seeing a leopard in the area in recent days. They alleged that though they had informed the administration and the departments concerned regarding the sighting of a big cat, no action was taken.

Several instances of leopard sightings have been reported in Budgam since February this year.

Though the forest department has captured a few leopards, locals said many more are moving around freely in the region. They alleged that the traps set by the forest department aren't good enough as they are placed without sufficient baits.
