COVID-19: India logs 18,346 fresh infections, lowest in 209 days

India reported 18,346 new cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest in 209 days, as per the data updated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.

Hyderabad: A single-day rise of 18,346 infections and 263 fatalities pushed India's COVID-19 tally to 3,38,53,048 cases and 4,49,260 deaths, as per the Union Health Ministry. Statistics showed Kerala alone reported 8,850 new cases and 149 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The active caseload has declined to 2,52,902, the lowest in 201 days, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.93 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the data updated on Tuesday showed.

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country under the nationwide vaccination drive have exceeded 91.54 crore. More than 6.73 crore (6,73,07,240) balance and unutilized COVID vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 3, 31,50,886.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 57.53 crore samples were tested up to October 4, of which 11,41,642 samples were tested on Monday.
