Mumbai (Maharashtra): Income Tax Department officials have launched raids on DB Realty and few other construction companies in Mumbai, Pune, Satara, Daund and Kolhapur, sources say.

The raids are also underway at multiple locations of some real estate developers having close links with a senior minister of the Maharashtra government. Meanwhile, following the IT Department's raids on Jarandeshwar Sugar Factory, there have been allegations that the firm is run by the relatives of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

However, reacting to the developments, Pawar said that it was the job of the department to carry out raids. He also alleged that the raids were politically motivated. "We have always been paying taxes. We know how to pay taxes," Pawar added and questioned whether the raids were carried out because they are his relatives.

"My sister's house was also raided. Current politics has gone downhill. Government machinery is being misused. I can understand that they were raided but are these raids being carried out because of my blood relationship. It is heard that many people have been raided. How is politics going on now? There is pressure on the media. The centre should do the work of the centre and the states do the work of the state," Pawar added.
