Important national events to look for today

The Supreme Court on Wednesday will pronounce its verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the Bombay High Court verdict which had upheld the grant of reservation to Marathas in admissions and government jobs in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a nationwide dharna today against the alleged post-election violence by Trinamool Congress workers in West Bengal. Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, whose party won 213 seats in the West Bengal assembly elections, will take oath as the Chief Minister for the third consecutive term.

• SC to pronounce verdict on Maharashtra law granting reservation to Maratha community

The Supreme Court will pronounce its judgement on petitions challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law that grants reservation to the Maratha community in education and jobs. A five-judge Constitution Bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, L Nageswara Rao, S Abdul Nazeer, Hemant Gupta and Ravindra Bhat will pronounce the verdict.

• BJP announces nationwide dharna against alleged violence by TMC workers

The BJP will hold a nationwide dharna on May 5 against the widespread violence unleashed by TMC workers post declaration of the West Bengal Assembly Elections results. The protest will be held following all COVID protocols across all organisational mandals of the BJP.
