1. SC to hear bail plea of comedian Munawar Faruqui today
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Friday a plea of comedian Munawar Faruqui seeking bail in a case related to allegedly hurting religious sentiments and passing objectionably remarks about Hindu deities during a show in Indore. A bench headed by Justice RF Nariman will hear the appeal of Munawar today. Faruqui, a resident of Gujarat, has moved a writ petition before the top court seeking bail. He has made governments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Delhi as parties in the case.
2. Jharkhand HC to hear bail plea of RJD Supremo
The Jharkhand High Court on Friday will resume hearing on the bail plea of former Chief Minister of Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, in connection with the fodder scam case. Ailing Lalu Prasad was brought to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi from Ranchi on January 23.
3. SC to hear Sonu Sood's plea against Bombay HC order on Friday
The Supreme Court will on Friday hear a plea filed by Bollywood actor Sonu Sood against a Bombay High Court order which dismissed his plea challenging a civic body notice over alleged illegal construction at his residential building in Juhu. A bench headed by Chief Justice S.A. Bobde and Justices A.S. Bopanna and V. Ramasubramanian will take up Sood's plea.
4. Delhi NCR, North India to experience brief monsoon
A fresh Western Disturbance over Afghanistan and North Pakistan has created an untimely monsoon weekend in parts of North, Eastern and Central India over the weekend, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Friday.
The IMD predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers with an isolated thunderstorm, lightning and hail over North Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh on Friday while over parts of Central and East India on Saturday.
5. Jammu-Srinagar highway to be closed on Friday
The Jammu-Srinagar highway will be closed on Friday due to maintenance or repair work, officials said. "No vehicular movement will be allowed from either side on the National Highway on February 5 in view of maintenance/repair of the road," the Traffic Police said in a statement. The highway -- the lifeline of Kashmir -- was closed briefly on Thursday also due to fresh snow.
