New Delhi: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Wednesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against yoga guru Baba Ramdev and that he should be charged with sedition.

IMA's president Dr JA Jayalal in his letter said that Ramdev is deliberately trying to stall the vaccination effort.

“We appeal to you to take appropriate action against individuals viciously propagating the message of fear on vaccination and challenge the Government of India’s protocol of treatment for their vested interest in their company products. This, in our opinion, is a clear-cut case of sedition and such people should be booked immediately without any delay and charged with sedition,” said Dr Jayalal.

Ramdev has allegedly said that 10,000 doctors have died despite taking both the dose of vaccine and lakhs of people have died due to allopathic medicine.

“When India initiated the vaccine rollout, IMA members across the country stood first to get the vaccine and dispelled vaccine hesitancy. With the sincere efforts of the government and the modern medical health care professionals, India could vaccinate nearly 20 crore people, one of the fastest vaccinations drive in the world,” said Dr Jayalal in his letter.

The IMA said that only 0.06 percent people were infected after vaccination. “It is well proved, that by vaccination we save our people and country from the catastrophe,” the letter said.

Dr Jayala said that modern medicine professionals follow the guidelines and protocols issued by the Ministry of Health.

“If someone is claiming that the allopathic medicine has killed people, it is an attempt to challenge the Ministry who has issued the protocol for treatment to us,” the letter added.

Dr Jayalal said that as many as 753 doctors died in the first wave and 513 in the second wave. “None in the first wave could receive the vaccine and the majority who had died in the second wave also could not take their vaccine for various reasons. Now deceitfully attributing 10,000 people have died despite two doses of vaccination, is a deliberate move to stall the efforts of vaccination to reach the masses,” Dr Jayalal said.

The Uttarakhand branch of IMA sent a defamation notice of Rs 1,000 crore to Ramdev. The notice said that if he does not post a video countering his earlier statement and tender a written apology in the next 15 days, Rs 1000 crore will be demanded from him.
