IAF launches investigation after suspicious object falls from helicopter

After a suspected object fell from a helicopter during a regular firing exercise in Jaislamer, Indian Air Forces has launched an investigation. A green colour suspicious object fell in Bhaniyana area, prompting authorities to act immediately.

Jaisalmer: Four teams of Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday launched an investigation within a radius of 100 km after a suspicious object fell from an advanced light helicopter while flying from Jodhpur for a regular firing exercise at Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer on Friday.

Preliminary investigation reveals that a one-foot-long object, green in colour, fell from the helicopter in Bhaniyana and its adjoining areas.

Upon receiving the information, the officials from IAF rushed to the spot and launched a search operation and also briefed the Bhaniyana police station.

The officials also apprised the locals and sarpanch of the suspicious object, which might be explosive in nature, and warned them to stay alert. The villagers have been instructed to inform the police and IAF officials if they recover any more such objects.

Bhaniyana station house officer Khetsingh Godhra said, "Police have informed the sarpanches of the area about the incident and people have been instructed to apprise the authorities of any such similar object. Four teams of IAF have launched the investigation. A suspicious object fell from an advanced light helicopter while flying from Jodhpur for a regular firing exercise at the Pokhran field firing range in Jaisalmer on Friday. The object might be explosive in nature and I urge people to co-operate with the police and IAF officials."

Villager Ranbeer Godhra requested the villagers to immediately inform the police or village chief if they spot the suspicious object anywhere in the village.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media and police officials are questioning the local people to gather more information. In the viral video, IAF officials can be heard saying that a cylindrical green-colour object, weighing 3-4 kgs, fell from the helicopter.

However, an official statement from IAF is still awaited.
