One dead after fire breaks out at high-rise in Mumbai, rescue ops underway

Rescue and dousing operations are underway at 'Hansa Heritage' in suburban Kandivali (West) where a fire broke out on Saturday evening. One person died of burn injuries, officials said.

Mumbai: At least one person has been reported dead after a fire broke out in a 15-storey residential building in suburban Kandivali (West) in Mumbai on Saturday evening.

According to Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire broke out at 'Hansa Heritage' on Mathuradas Road. The fire started in a flat on the 14th floor of the building around 8:30 pm. Rescue and dousing operations are underway at the site, an official said.

Two people were injured in the incident. They have been sent to a hospital, news agency ANI quoted officials as saying.

Seven fire brigade vehicles are present at the spot for fire fighting operations. The cause of the fire is being probed, officials said.

Mayor Kishori Pednekar is also present at the spot.
