Chandigarh: The farmers' protest against the three agricultural laws of the Central government has completed 300 days today. The farmers of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh have been protesting on the borders of Delhi for the last several months. The farmers are not ready to vacate their protest sites.
The farmers' movement was in doubt of coming to an end, following the 26 January Republic Day violence. It also survived clashes with the Delhi Police. But despite the challenges, the protest movement continues to thrive.
At one time, very few farmers were left on the Ghazipur border and in the night, the police surrounded the site from all three sides. At that time, Rakesh Tikait launched an emotional appeal to the farmers to join the protest.

The movement started in November 2020
In the year 2020, when the winter was starting, farmers were moving towards Delhi. The farmers opposed the three new agriculture laws passed by the central government. The movement started from Punjab and moved towards Delhi. The Haryana government tried its best to stop the farmers. However, the farmers went ahead and reached the Delhi borders and camped at Singhu and Tikri border. The farmers from Western Uttar Pradesh camped at the Ghazipur border.
After this, a large number of farmers from Haryana and UP became a part of this movement. Several celebrities also supported the farmers' agitation. Then the government commenced talks with the farmers, but even after several rounds of discussions, things did not work out. Since then the movement continued unabated with neither the government nor the farmers' organisation ready to backtrack.
