Speaking to ETV Bharat, Chitra said she had studied in a government Kannada medium school until Class X. Though she found switching over to English in PUC (Science) and B.Sc difficult, she compensated for it with her hard work and determination. "I have always been interested in Chemistry and that helped. I am excited to win these medals. I dedicate them to my parents, professors and to all those who supported me," she said, adding she would like to pursue research studies in Medicinal Chemistry.

In her message to students from rural areas, Chitra said, "Do not let English be a barrier. Speak in the language that you are comfortable with. Study well and be well informed, and you will succeed."
