Sonipat (Haryana): Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) in a joint press conference made the announcement of ending the protest against the three controversial farm laws started 15 months ago. The farmers union said that farmers from several Delhi borders will return to their homes by December 11.

Meanwhile, the farmers have started leaving the major protesting sites of Singhu, Kundli, Tikri and Gazipur borders, pulling down the semi-permanent structures and are travelling back home. Some of the big community kitchens are also being dismantled.

However, farmers also warned that "for now, we are calling off the protest but will hold a review meeting on Jan 15. If the government does not fulfill its promises, we would resume our agitation," said Balbir Singh Rajewal a prominent leader of the SKM and President of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU). "While returning back to their homes farmers will be taking out a victory march on Dec 11" Rajewal added.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the SKM today after a draft proposal from the Centre was received on the pending issues of farmers.

In the revised draft, Centre has agreed to withdraw all the cases registered during the protest and also agreed to have only SKM members in the committee to frame law for MSP. The electricity bill will also be introduced in Parliament only after discussion with the farmer's representatives. Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are ready for compensation. However, the demand of the farmers is that compensation should be given on the lines of Punjab.
