New Delhi: A government analysis has identified family and health issues as principal reasons behind the voluntary retirement of the central armed police force (CAPF) personnel in the country.
"Personnel and domestic reasons including children and family issues, health issues of self or family members, social and family obligations and commitment and better career opportunities are some of the major reasons for voluntary retirement," said the government analysis.
Government records said that as many as 1083 BSF personnel already took voluntary retirement this year. The number of BSF personnel of all ranks who took voluntary retirement in 2020 was 3303 and it was 3847 in 2019.
Similarly, CISF registered voluntary retirement of 150 this year, 469 voluntary retirements in 2020 and 738 voluntary retirement in 2019.
As many as 195 CRPF personnel already took voluntary retirement this year. The number of voluntary retirement amongst CRPF personnel in 2020 was 960 and 1988 in 2019.
Likewise, 27 ITBP personnel took voluntary retirement this year, 432 in 2020 and 332 in 2019.
The government statistics further said that 55 SSB personnel took voluntary retirement this year whereas 922 personnel took voluntary retirement in 2020 and 386 in 2019. Similarly, 19 AR personnel took voluntary retirement this year whereas 445 took voluntary retirement in 2020 and 514 took similar retirement in 2019.

Informing on the issue in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that the central government has been taking several steps as corrective measures to redress the grievances of the security personnel.
"The remedial measures for increasing satisfaction level of force personnel such as grant of leave, option for choice posting, posting of couples at same stations, providing family accommodation, provision of medical and education facilities are taken regularly," said Rai.
Pointing out that housing satisfaction level also plays an important role in this factor, Rai said that 51.53 percent of AR personnel have satisfaction in their present dwelling units. Similarly, 44.78 percent of BSF personnel expressed satisfaction over their present dwelling units, 43.80 percent CISF personnel expressed satisfaction over their dwelling units, 52.16 percent satisfaction amongst CRPF personnel, 39.93 percent amongst ITBP personnel, 80.88 percent amongst NSG and 26.17 percent SSB personnel expressed satisfaction over their dwelling units.
