Hyderabad (Telangana): Bathukamma song will be unique with folk and classical, said film director Gautham Vasudev Menon. Oscar awardee and famous music A.R. Rahman and Menon have come together to make the song in which Menon has composed and directed Bathukamma Song. This song will represent the spirituality and culture of the Telangana state.
A prominent singer has sung this song, a four-minute video. This song's video is shot at Bhoodan Pochampally village in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. As the Bathukamma festival is going to start on Oct. 6, the song is to be released before that. There is a chance of remaking this song into other languages as well.
Excerpts from the interview with Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Q: There are a lot of songs on Bathukamma. What we would see as the difference between your song and previous songs?
Gautham Menon: I made the song for Bathukamma...musically composed by A.R Rahman. So music is the difference between the earliest songs which came out and my song. But the earliest songs are also very nice since they are folk and traditional. so when I discussed this with Rahman, he said that he will try something unique. In that scenario, keeping the folk music in his mind, he composed the song very classically.
I called it a perfect song. He did not try the song for a commercial. When we were shooting the song, everybody enjoyed it a lot. I have given the song an aesthetic look. The song flows from a young girl's point of view. The woman characters in this song and my films are very important and in my life also. And, this song is also completely about womanhood.
Q: Why do big names in the industry come for this regional song? It is merely one region's festival and not celebrated in other parts of the country. What is that point you are trying to put across?
Gautham Menon: We never think like we are the stars and big celebrities. As for my passion, I filmed this song. Previously, I made films or songs in other traditions like Kerala and Punjab. And this Bathukamma song will be unique in Rahman's music and Telangana's culture.
