Chandigarh: The Haryana police on Wednesday submitted an affidavit in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in connection with the former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh's derogatory remarks against another cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal during an Instagram chat last year. Police said that Singh is coming up with a different interpretation of what he had said.
Hansi Superintendent of Police Nitika Gahlaut informed the court that derogatory remarks used by Singh is a slur used against the Dalit community. Police apprised the court of the local survey stating that Singh's comment is a casteist slur used against the SC/ST community and is abusive in content.
Nitika Gahlaut told the court that Yuvraj joined the probe on April 14. Police also quashed Singh's argument that the remarks used by him was a dancing style as that of a ‘bhangi'.

It was during one of the Instagram live sessions with Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma that Singh made an offensive comment about Chahal, while talking about his regular social media posts. An FIR was registered against the cricketer at the Hansi police station by lawyer Rajat Kalsan under provisions of the IPC and SC/ST Act.
Kalsan had alleged that Singh's comment had hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community, stating that a large number of people had watched the video on social media.
Singh was booked for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc under the SC/ST. However, he had apologised for the remarks, saying he 'unintentionally' hurt public sentiments.
